The contests available
American Math Contests (AMC 8, 10 & 12), American Scholastic Math Association (ASMA Jr & Sr), GAUSS, Beaver Computing Challenge, History Essay Writing Competitions, Sir Isaac Newton (SIN) Physics exam, Avagardo Chemistry Contests, Biology Olympics, Harvard Economic Challenge, Pascal and Euclid advance math tests are some of the contests our students are participating this academic year.
The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills.
Possible topics : Probability, Estimation, Percents, Elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, Spatial Visualization, Everyday Applications, and Reading/Interpreting Graphs.
The AMC 10 (Grade 9 and 10) is a 25 question, 75 minute multiple choice examination in secondary school mathematics containing problems which can be understood and solved with algebra and geometry concepts.
The AMC 12 (Grade 11 and 12) is a 25 question, 75 minute multiple choice examination in secondary school mathematics containing problems which can be understood and solved with pre-calculus concepts.
American Invitational Mathematics Exam
The American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) is a challenging exam offered for those who excelled on the AMC 10 or AMC 12 exams. The AIME is a 15 question, 3 hour examination
ASMA Junior and Senior
ASMA contest is a series of six contests. Each contest examination set consists of seven questions. At the end of the sixth examination, the totals for all schools are compared and an awards listing is sent to all schools with the appropriate award certificate. This contest provides students with an opportunity to compete internationally with other high-ability students across the world
Junior Contest - is for 9th and 10th graders. Student will get 35 minutes to answer the question. There will be 7 questions in each contest. Calculators may be used but not shared by students
Senior Contest - is for 11th and 12th graders, format is same as that of Junior exam. Student will get 35 minutes to answer the question. There will be 7 questions in each contest. Calculators may be used but not shared by students
Students in Grade 11 and 12 can participate in Biology contest.
- Format: 50 multiple-choice questions, 75 minutes
Fryer, Galois and Hypatia Math Contest
Students in Grade 9 or below are eligible to write the Fryer Contest.
Students in Grade 10 or below are eligible to write the Galois Contest.
Students in Grade 11 or below are eligible to write the Hypatia Contest.
- Format: 4 questions, 75 minutes, 40 total marks
Pascal, Cayley and Fermat Math Contest
Students in Grade 9 or below are eligible to write the Pascal Contest.
Students in Grade 10 or below are eligible to write the Cayley Contest.
Students in Grade 11 or below are eligible to write the Fermat Contest.
- Format: 25 multiple-choice questions, 60 minutes, 150 total marks
Euclid Math Contest
Students in Grade 12 are eligible to write the Euclid Contest.
Format: 10 questions, 2.5 hours, 100 total marks
Sir Isaac Newton (SIN) Physics Contest
Students in Grade 11 and 12 can participate in SIN contest.
SIN exam is written online .Students will have a two hour time frame in which to write the exam. Certificates will be awarded for all successful candidates, and after the completion of all exams an overall winner from each division and each school will receive certificates and awards. Non-programmable calculators may be used but not shared by students.
Students in Grade 7 and 8 are eligible to write the Gauss Contest.
- Format: 25 questions, 60 minutes, 150 total marks
